Newborn baby boy abandoned at roadside
ILOILO CITY — Police authorities are trying to find the mother of a newborn boy allegedly found abandoned at a secluded pathway at Don T. Lutero Center at Janiuay town in Iloilo.
Inspector Jigger Gimeno of the Janiuay Police Station said the baby boy was carefully wrapped and placed inside a white paper bag, but was well even if he was apparently born prematurely.
A certain Emily Bayoneta, a resident in the area, saw the bag last Friday and surrendered it to authorities. She said that she first heard a baby’s cry prompting her to check the surroundings and later saw the baby, with its uncut umbilical cord and unwashed blood on his body.
The baby was then rushed to Roman Tirador Memorial District Hospital for treatment. The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of Janiuay said it would take custody of him.
Gimeno said investigation is underway on two pregnant women living in the area where the baby was found. “In a few days’ time, maybe we could have a development on our investigation,” he said. (FREEMAN)
