College student escapes from 'abductors'

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Seemingly incoherent and exhausted, an 18-year old female college student reported to the police that she had just escaped, or rather was allowed to flee by her alleged abductors.

All by her lonesome, Kris Mison, a resident of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, told the Miag-ao Police Station in Iloilo province that four kidnappers left her physically unharmed at a roadside in Miag-ao town.

Senior Insp. Edyliz Ritchie Crucero, Miag-ao Police chief, said the victim just walked in unannounced at the police station at around 11:35 p.m. of Wednesday and reported that she escaped from four men who forcibly took her at 4:00 p.m. of the same day at Lacson St. in Bacolod City.

Aside from her mobile phone, Mison was not carrying any belongings. She however claimed to have lost P9,000 during her reported abduction.

As it is, Mison’s alleged abduction coincided with the report of her aunt to members of Police Station 2 of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO). According to her aunt, Mison left their house at Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City at around 3:30 p.m. to pay for her tuition fee at Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod where she is enrolled as a second year college student.

When she failed to return several hours later, her aunt got worried and informed her parents about what happened. Initial calls and text messages sent to her went left unanswered.

Mison later answered her mother’s call and told the latter that four men abducted her and had her sniffed something from a cloth covered on her mouth and nose. Other reports however pointed to Mison getting punches on her stomach reason why she lost consciousness. She was then placed in the compartment of an old model car, which she can’t remember the make or color.

The complainant claimed she got her consciousness back just before she was dumped in Miag-ao town. But unlike those who were kidnapped and left at a place unknown to them, Mison did not ask for help from village folks. Instead, she went directly to the police station on foot. Her family surmised that the “abductors” might have brought the victim through the Roll on-Roll Off vessel to Iloilo.

As of presstime, Crucero did not confirm if Mison was really abducted. “We will let the Bacolod City Police investigate if there was indeed an abduction that took place at Lacson St. (in that city),” he said.

The “victim” could not also point to any motive why she should be abducted except that there have been offers for her to join a sorority or frasority but she allegedly declined them.

Her parents arrived at the police station 3:00 a.m. yesterday, fetched her and they immediately left for Bacolod City. - THE FREEMAN
