BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A total of 919 students from Negros Occidental will be recruited by the Comelec provincial office to work as Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) Machines technicians for the May 2013 elections.
Comelec provincial election supervisor Jessie Suarez said Comelec director Adolfo Ibañez had ordered to seek help from various schools around the country to provide students who can serve as PCOS technicians in 2013. The quota of Negros Occidental for PCOS machines technicians is 919, he said.
Suarez, in his letter to Comelec-6 regional director Dennis Ausan dated August 2, said a total of 4,150 students from various colleges and universities in Negros Occidental are willing to work as PCOS machines technicians in next year’s elections.
He said the Comelec will conduct interview and screening of these applicants to select the needed 919 technicians, who must be at least second year college taking up an IT (information technology) course.
The school with the most number of student-applicants is University of Saint La Salle with 873, followed by Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC)-Talisay City campus with 400, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (319), Bacolod City College (300), CHMSC-Estefania campus in Bacolod (300), Bago City College (280), Colegio San Agustin (225), Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas campus in Talisay City (200) and La Carlota City College (200).
Other applicants are from three more schools in Bacolod, three in Kabankalan City, two from San Carlos City, two from Binalbagan town, one more each in Cadiz City, Talisay City, La Carlota City and Himamaylan City. - THE FREEMAN
