PB member's car kills LGU employee

- Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A disbursing officer of the Pontevedra municipal government in Negros Occidental was killed, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with the car of 6th District Provincial Board Member Pedro Zayco Jr. at Brgy. 1 Poblacion, also in Pontevedra, Wednesday morning.

Ely Roderos, 56, was initially rushed to the Valladolid District Hospital but was later transferred to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center (Sanitarium Hospital) where he died a few hours after the accident.

Zayco came from Kabankalan City and was going to Bacolod City to attend the PB regular session when the incident happened.

Initial police investigation said Roderos was about to cross the San Juan Bridge when his motorcycle was hit by Zayco’s vehicle. The impact of the collision threw the victim and his motorcycle several meters away, reports said.

Zayco said he was deeply sorry for the victim and he sympathized with the family. He said he will find a proper time to personally talk to them, and he will extend financial assistance to the family. He said he contacted Roderos’ department head about the help he (Zayco) can give.

The PB member’s private car was driven by Elmer Garinganao, whom Zayco said was a careful driver and has been his driver since he was still mayor of Kabankalan City.

Garinganao immediately surrendered to the Pontevedra PNP but was later release upon the request of Zayco. – THE FREEMAN
