Military lauds PNP for arrest of Negros NPA "extortionist"
JAMINDAN, CAPIZ, Philippines — The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division lauded the Philippine National Police for arresting a top ranking NPA “extortionist” in Victorias City, Negros Occidental last June 26.
Robert Espinosa, alias Bert/Demar, allegedly an expert on extortion, was also the technical and intelligence man of the NPA Northern Negros Front. In the island of Negros, he also oversaw NPA forces on attacks against government forces.
Major Gen. Jose Mabanta Jr., 3rd ID commander, said: “The arrest was a product of the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center in the island of Negros. Combined forces of the PA and the PNP who continued to conduct joint operations has strengthened our respective capabilities.”
Colonel Oscar Lactao, commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade in Negros Occidental, said the arrest of Espinosa was a big blow to the NPA organization in Negros. It showed government resolve to put criminals behind bars, as Espinosa had jumped bail in the past.”
Espinosa has a warrant of arrest, one of which is unbailable, for allegedly committing arson, two counts of robbery in band, homicide and physical injuries. (FREEMAN)
