Bombing of ngcp tower Bohol officials still clueless

- Ric V. Obedencio, Correspondent - The Philippine Star

SAN MIGUEL, BOHOL, Philippines – Authorities remained clueless on who could be responsible in the bombing of a power tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in barangay Camanaga of this town early morning of June 24.Information officer Deng Pesquira told The Freeman that police and local officials as of yesterday were still assessing the situation but could not yet pinpoint on who were responsible of and what could be the motive of the blasting.

It was the second time that a tower of the NGCP was tried to be toppled. The first one was last year when still unidentified perpetrators tried to bring down a tower in the hinterland barangay of Sta. Catalina in Catigbian town, westward of San Miguel.

Pesquira said that he learned from residents that they heard a big explosion from the spot where the tower was located at dawn of last Sunday. The sound was hear even up to two kilometers away, they said.

Pesquira said that the tower is now leaning but has not totally collapsed due to impact of the blast. Its fragments were brought to the PNP Crime Laboratory where these were still being evaluated to determine the kind of bomb used.

The Municipal Peace and Order Council, presided by Mayor Claudio Bonior, met yesterday to assess the situation, he said.

Governor Edgar Chatto also called for a meeting last Monday with Mayor Bonior, Bohol Police provincial director Constantino Barot, Jr. and other officials to conduct an assessment on the incident.

A source of the NGCP who attended that meeting at the Capitol said the company has yet to issue statement while still gathering information about the bombing.

Pesquira said the authorities concerned are now looking at various possibilities of the motive, such as handiwork of the rebels or disgruntled persons, or lot owners or relatives who were not yet paid of their lots being traversed by the tower power line. (FREEMAN)
