Dumaguete diocese's bloodletting program needs more donors

- Judy Flores Partlow - The Philippine Star

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – The “Dugo Ko, Kinabuhi Mo” bloodletting program of the Diocese of Dumaguete, which includes majority of Negros Oriental towns and cities and the province of Siquijor, still needs more donors as possible.

Father Antonio Arnaiz, chaplain of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH), has enjoined the public to support the program, which is made available to everybody, including patients of other hospitals like the Holy Child Hospital and the Silliman University Medical Center.

Under the program, parishes under the Dumaguete diocese are asked to hold a once-a-year bloodletting activity. One of the parishes that stood out was in Brgy. Magsaysay, Dauin town, which had at least three bloodletting activities each year due to the high number of donors, said Arnaiz.

The program offers free blood screening, blood typing and hemoglobin check for potential donors with no remuneration at all, unlike the common practice of other blood donors who “sell” their blood for a fee.

Arnaiz said a similar activity is scheduled this July in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental and at the police provincial office in nearby Agan-an of Sibulan town. - THE FREEMAN
