Phl Army exhibit wows Ormocanons
ORMOC CITY, Philippines — Thousands of Ormocanons intermingled with the soldiers of the 19th Infantry (Commando) Battalion and the 802nd Infantry (Peerless) Brigade during the Philippine Army Static Display held at the City Plaza last Wednesday.
The one-day exhibit showed various Philippine Army armaments and equipment, while giving Ormocanons the chance to talk about the life of the soldiers and touch some of the military equipment, including the 105-mm Howitzer, a type of cannon used by the artillery in the Simba, an armored vehicle.
The event also had a demonstration on the duties and responsibilities of the Army Infantry Squad, a nine man team considered one of the smallest units in the military organization.
Lieutenant Col. Joel Alejandro Nacnac, commander of the 19th IB, in a radio interview said that the activity was conducted to enhance the relationship of the Ormocanons and the soldiers.
Nacnac also said the exhibit was part of the Philippine Army’s commitment for involvement in the 382nd Founding Anniversary of Ormoc City.
It was the third major event participated in by the 19th IB and the 802nd IBde since the start of city government’s month-long celebration of its anniversary, the first two of which was in the City’s Fun Run on June 10 and the Philippine Independence Day parade on June 12.
