Robredo orders LGUs to help protect Danajon

- Jose P. Sollano - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo wanted local government officials in Central Visayas and neighboring provinces of Leyte and Southern Leyte in Eastern Visayas to actively participate in the protection efforts of the marine resource-rich Danajon Double Barrier Reef (DDBR), which is now threatened by “destructive and unsustainable actions.”

Robredo issued Memorandum Circular, dated June 5, 2012, a copy of which was made available to The Freeman, directing all governors, city and municipal mayors and local government units representatives in Region 7 and 8 to regularly attend the organizational meeting of the Danajon Bank Management Council.

The DDBR encompasses Lapu-Lapu City in Mactan island, Baybay City in Leyte and Maasin City in Southern Leyte, the towns of Inopacan, Hindang, Hilongos, Matalom and Bato in Leyte and the towns of President Carlos P. Garcia, Ubay, Trinidad, Bien-Unido, Talibon, Getafe, Buenavista, Inabanga, Clarin and Tubigon in Bohol.
