Funeral, burial set for late MsgrVicente

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines  – The Diocese of Dumaguete has announced that the Funeral Mass and interment of the late Monsignor Antonio Vicente is set on Tuesday at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in this city.

Diocesan administrator Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing will be the main celebrant while Msgr. Larry Catubig will deliver the Homily during the concelebrated Mass to be attended by members of the Dumaguete clergy at 2p.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow at the Dumaguete Memorial Park.

The late Rev. Msgr. Bienvenido Antonio Escalambre Vicente passed away early Monday at the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete City due to a lingering ailment. He was 77. His body now lies at the Jubilee Hall of the cathedral compound.

Born in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental on December 11, 1934 to the couple Juan Vicente and Trinidad Escalambre (both deceased), Msgr. Vicente was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1966 at Logroño, Spain.

He served as a diocesan priest various capacities: As parish priest of Basay, Negros Oriental (Aug. 1971-1976); of Lazi, Siquijor (beginning April 28, 1976); of Bais City, Negros Oriental (June 22, 1984 onwards); and of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental (December 10, 1988 onwards).

He became confessor of the AR Sisters in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental (January 08, 1992); parish priest of Kalumboyan, also in Bayawan City (June 1992); chaplain of Manalongon in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental (June 18, 1997); and resident priest in Bayawan (March 26, 2002 onwards).

On October 19, 1981, Msgr. Vicente was awarded with the title Papal Chamberlain, according to the Informationis Causa released by the Diocese of Dumaguete. (FREEMAN)
