MAASIN CITY, Philippines — The city government has pledged P1 million for the Department of Education’s annual Brigada Eskwela.
“The city government commits P 1 million for the year-round conduct of Brigada Eskwela, P500,000 coming from the School Education Fund (SEF) and P 500,000 from City Priority Projects,” Mayor Maloney Samaco declared during the kick-off ceremonies and inter-agency convergence meeting held at barangay Combado gym the other day.
The DepEd started yesterday a week-long voluntary cleaning of all public elementary and high school campuses nationwide dubbed “Brigada Eskwela” in preparation for the opening of classes June 4 for school year 2012-2013.
For this city’s DepEd schools division, however, this annual event was not limited to a one-week only activity but all throughout the year, with matching separate budget from the city coffers. If the budgeted amount will not be enough, additional funds will be allocated to augment the financial requirement if needed, Samaco said.
Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado, for his part, assured DepEd that the provincial government will also provide support to all the programs and projects undertaken by the city division office. —(FREEMAN)
