Bohol district jail three inmates escape; Chatto orders manhunt

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – Three inmates of the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) wrestled with jail guards and their way out with a gun and escaped past 2 p.m. on May 17, Thursday.

“They are now on the run,” a report quoted provincial warden Renan Torreon of the BDJ, which is now administered by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

The inmates were identified as Mario Llaya, who is accused of robbery, Bryan Ceniza for illegal gun possession; and Exequiel Aniscal for robbery with homicide.

As this developed, Governor Edgar Chatto ordered their manhunt and capture and police authorities had mobilized their forces to plug possible escape routes, including seaports in the towns.

Chatto called on the people and other sectors concerned to report any suspicious elements who might be the escapees.

Torreon is still investigating the incident on why inmate Aniscal was able to possess a hand gun and aimed it at one of the jail guards thus enabling the inmate and two others to get past the main gate of the BDJ.

As of presstime, it was still unclear how the gun went to Aniscal’s hands even if the visitors’ search at the jail’s gate has been reportedly followed strictly. (FREEMAN)
