PNP rules out robbery in murder of judge's wife, granddaughter

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  — Investigators of the Barotav Nuevo Police Station dismissed robbery as the motive behind the killing of the wife and granddaughter of a Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge and instead focused on personal grudges.

The victims, 65-year-old Sonia Amular, wife of Judge Daniel Antonio Gerardo Amular of RTC Branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz, and 17-year-old granddaughter Rubylin Deloso, were found dead at their family-owned pension house in Barangay Ilaya, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, Monday morning.

The Barotac Nuevo Police said the lifeless bodies were discovered by one of Amular’s workers Milo Guanzon who went to the pension house Monday morning to do carpentry job. He stumbled on the naked body of Deloso bathed in cold blood inside the bathroom.

Guanzon immediately sought police help, who immediately responded that led to the discovery of Mrs. Amular’s lifeless body in the midst of the garden inside the pension house compound, the PNA-6 report said.

Police said the minor victim bore 20 stab wounds in the different parts of her body while that of her grandmother sustained eight stab wounds with her head hit by a hard object.

The Barotac Nuevo Police theorized the killings could have been done early Sunday afternoon.

The suspect may have gained entry thru the back portion of the compound and chanced upon the minor inside the bathroom where she was killed before attacking Amular, who was attending to her garden at that time.

Police said the minor victim would be subjected to an autopsy to determine if she was indeed molested when found naked inside the bathroom.

Judge Amular was at their family residence in Iloilo City over the weekend prior to his travel to Mambusao, Capiz where he is presently assigned as presiding judge of an RTC branch in that town.

He said he could not remember any death threats relative to his job that might link to the grizzly killing of his wife and granddaughter. (FREEMAN)
