E. Samar to get Aussie's climate change aid

- Alicia Nicart -

BORONGAN CITY, Philippines  — Eastern Samar province is set to receive an aid from the government of Australia as mentioned in a consultative conference held recently at the Capitol with key stakeholders and representatives of the Australian government.

The conference, according to a PIA-8 report, was aimed at coming up with project proposals on child-centered community-based adaptation programs to help children and their communities in increasing their resiliency to the changing world climate.

A report said that Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Southern Leyte had been selected by the donor country because of the vulnerability of these provinces to disaster as a result of climate change. It added that Philippines ranks third in the World Index as one that is extremely vulnerable to climate change.

Slated to begin in July and end in December this year, the project will 1) give access to information of vulnerable boys and girls and broaden their knowledge on the impact of climate change, 2) localize climate change action plans, and 3) empower children and communities in advocating climate change mitigation.  (FREEMAN)
