PNoy, Mar to attend LP confab in Negros Occ
BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III and Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas are expected to attend the Liberal Party convention in Negros Occidental on May 4 and 5.
LP provincial chairman Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez (3rd District, Neg. Occ.) said the two LP stalwarts have been invited to the convention, which is aimed at strengthening the party in Negros Occidental.
Benitez said more local officials in the province are also expected to transfer and join the LP, a situation that Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. described as part of “democracy in action.”
Marañon also cited the recent transfer of 3rd District Provincial Board Member Patrick Lacson and Silay City Vice Mayor Mark Golez from the former ruling party, Lakas-CMD, to the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).
Lacson and Golez, both allies of Benitez, took their oaths as PMP members before former President Joseph Estrada at his home in San Juan City last week.
The governor said: “That’s their choice, that is democracy in action. That’s the beauty in Philippine politics.”(FREEMAN)
