Dumaguete Tourism stops taking passport applicants

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – The City Tourism Office has announced to the public that it has stopped receiving applications for mobile passporting effective yesterday because it already reached the maximum quota of applicants given by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

City Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquiling Jr, said his office would like to cater to more applicants but its quota of 700 applications was already filled.

Maquiling said the City Tourism was overwhelmed with the number of applicants that poured in as it was beyond expectations.

An applicant will only pay the regular fee of P1,200, which will be directly remitted to the DFA, and will no longer travel to Bacolod or Cebu to process his or her passport, said Maquiling as he apologized to the applicants who were not accommodated.

Maquiling however said the DFA, to continue its services for city applicants, will be opening an office at Robinsons Place Dumaguete for mobile passporting on May 5 and 6. - THE FREEMAN
