Layug takes over command of 3rd ID

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Philippine Army chief, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, yesterday presided over the turnover of command ceremonies for the new commander of the 8th Infantry (Stormtroopers) Division at Camp Lukban in this city in Samar province.

The outgoing commander, Maj. Gen. Mario Chan, turned over his post to Brig. Gen. Gerardo Layug, who was also promoted to the rank of major general.

Chan has reached the compulsory age of retirement, while the incoming commander Layug was previously the head of the 301st Infantry Brigade in Panay island. - THE FREEMAN
