Negros Oriental PNP opens e-Blotter System

- Judy Flores Partlow -

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines  – The Negros Oriental Police on Friday officially became the first provincial police office in Central Visayas to adopt the PNP’s e-Blotter System, a management tool eyed in the formulation of effective anti-crime strategies and the modernization of the PNP’s crime data base.

Police Regional Office-7 director Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo led the launching of the e-Blotter System with Governor Roel Degamo, Negros Oriental Police provincial director Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza and other ranking police officials from the national and regional offices in attendance.

The police chiefs of the five cities and 20 towns in Negros Oriental were also present to receive their respective computers and other logistics for the system.

Under the E-Blotter project, all crime incidents, the names of suspects, gallery of crime suspects and other pertinent data will be encoded in the system and will be transmitted to the PRO-7 and then to the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Carranza however said the project is limited only to police personnel and could not be accessed by the public or even the members of the media.

He said that what contained in the regular police blotter would be the same in the electronic version, because the hard copy of the former is required by the courts in the filing of criminal charges.

The e-Blotter System in Negros Oriental is expected to take off by next week as it needs some final touches, such as ensuring that police personnel are properly trained on the software program specifically designed for the project.

Carranza said arrangements are now being made to ensure that all police stations shall have reliable Internet access and alternate means of uploading data entries during power interruptions. (FREEMAN)
