Flood hits 12 brgys in Talisay City, Negros Occ

BACOLOD CITY ,Philippines  — A total of 1,136 families from 12 barangays in Talisay City, Negros Occidental were affected by floods that hit the city Wednesday, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office reported yesterday.

These barangays are near the Minulu-an River that overflowed due to continued heavy rains, reports said.

Twenty-four families were evacuated to the Rafael B. Lacson Elementary School, the Tayabas Elementary School, and the Talisay South Elementary School, while two houses in Brgy. Zone 14 were totally damaged, the PSWDO said.

The Negros Occidental provincial government, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave the evacuees 150 packs of food, said PSWD officer Liane Garcia.

Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan also distributed relief goods to the evacuees, who have already returned to their respective houses yesterday soon after the floodwaters subsided.
