200 Negros Occ Capitol workers may lose jobs

- Danny B. Dangcalan -

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — About 200 employees of the Negros Occidental provincial government might lose their jobs when the total reorganization would be implemented.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said about 10 percent of the about 2,300 Capitol employees will be affected, since there will be “sections” that will be abolished or merged. Those who will be retrenched can avail themselves of early retirement, he said.

Marañon said he requested the Provincial Board to grant him authority to reorganize the provincial government to streamline every department for better delivery of services.

The Capitol, last September, hired a Quezon City-based CPRM Consultants Inc, at a cost of about P1.6 million, to conduct an assessment of the functions of departments and employees.

The study ran from September to December last year, after which recommendations were submitted to Marañon on which offices will be merged or abolished, and workers to be retrenched or reshuffled, Provincial Administrator Enrique Pinongan said. - THE FREEMAN
