"Drunken" man "accidentally" shoots wife dead

- Jennifer P. Rendon -

MALINAO, AKLAN ,Philippines  — A complex crime of parricide with the use of unlicensed firearm or parricide and illegal possession of firearm would be slapped against a man who accidentally shot to death his wife Saturday evening at their house in Brgy. Cogon of this town.

Senior Supt. Cornelio Defensor, Aklan Police director, said the suspect, Violito Ibunes, killed his wife after he accidentally pulled the trigger of a homemade gun, locally known as sumpak, while they were grappling for the gun’s possession.

Violito’s wife, 47-year-old Lorna, was hit on her stomach, according to police reports, and that the suspect was drunken when he went home at the time of the incident.

The suspect allegedly took his sumpak with a plan of going out, but Lorna, knowing well that Violito could be looking for a fight, tried to prevent him from going out of the house.

Lorna asked her husband to just stay home until he gets sober. Violito however insisted causing the two to grapple for the gun. The gun went off hitting Lorna as a result.

The Malinao Police claimed that Violito had the habit of looking for a fight when drunk. He was arrested by local police on the night when Lorna was killed.
