Corpse washed ashore in Bohol town
DUERO, BOHOL – A corpse of a still unidentified person has been found washed ashore in Barangay Alejawan of this town, about 73 kilometers east of Tagbilaran City.
Municipal health officer Victor Alan Torrefranca confirmed the discovery, but he and local residents could not identify whose body was it.
Torrefranca told The Freeman, in an exclusive interview, they can only speculate that it could be one of the typhoon victims from Cagayan de Oro City although there was no way yet to confirm this.
He said Mayor Cornelius Ocay had ordered him to bury immediately the corpse, adding that an autopsy may be conducted by concerned authorities if necessary to determine the identity or when there are people claiming it.
There have been some reports about dead bodies that drifted ashore in some nearby towns, but a check with government officials proved these were not true.
Some residents of Mahinog town however insisted that some of typhoon Sendong victims and survivors from Mindanao have drifted to as far as Camiguin island-province, and even Bohol. (FREEMAN)
