Ten priests of Dumaguete Diocese receive Papal Award as monsignors

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines  – Ten priests of the Diocese of Dumaguete formally received the title of Chaplain of His Holiness during investiture rites held at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in this city recently.

Pope Benedict XVI bestowed the Papal Award “Capellano di Sua Santita” (Chaplain of Holiness) to the ten, who were chosen among 85 members of the diocesan clergy. They were as follows:

Reverend Monsignors Lou Baroy Bayocboc (episcopal vicar of south diocese), Albert Erasmo Garcia Bohol (episcopal vicar-north), Glenn Montebon Corsiga (rector, St. Joseph Seminary College), Ramon Lozada Duran, Manuel Penuela Duetao (senior member, Diocesan Clergy), Julius Perpetuo Santos Heruela (rector, Cathedral Parish), Carmelito Callao Torres (senior member, Diocesan Clergy), Gamaliel Du Tulabing, (vicar general) Marino Patron Ybo (superintendent, Diocesan Catholic Schools), and Thaddeu Stefano Zerna Quinit (diocesan chancellor).

A Chaplain of His Holiness is a priest addressed as Monsignor and has certain privileges, such as regards ecclesiastical dress.

In accordance with the motu prorio Pontificalis Domus of March 28 1968, those priests who were formerly called Supernumerary Privy Chamberlains continue to be part of the Papal Household, but under the new title of Chaplains of His Holiness.

The lower ranks of Privy Chamberlains (Honorary Chamberlains of Purple Robes, Chamberlains extra Urben, Honorary Privy Chaplains and Honorary Chaplains extra Urbem) were abolished.

Most Reverend John Du, Bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete, celebrated the Holy Mass in honor of St. Ambrose of Milan and the investiture of the new monsignors. – (FREEMAN)
