P8.26M allotted for housing project of indigent families in Dumaguete

CEBU, Philippines - A total of P8.26 million fund has been allocated for the Core Shelter Assistance Project (CSAP), a project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region 7 for the housing needs of 60 indigent families who were victims of flashfloods Dumaguete City.

The DSWD-7 put up P4.2 million for the project to address the shelter need of the displaced and homeless families in the city, while the city government set aside a counterpart fund of P4.06 million for the purchase of lot, survey and site development.

Currently, the identified family-beneficiaries are living in shanties along rivers and creeks of Barangays Tabuc-Tubig, Bagacay, Junob, Cadawinonan, Batinguel, Candau-ay, Balugo, Taclobo, and Barangay 8.

Under the project, each household will receive a 50 square meter land in their relocation site at Barangay Bajumpandan in this city, which has a total land area of 5,000 square meters.

The CSAP project was officially opened with the recent ground breaking ceremony in the area, led by DSWD's assistant regional director Nemia Antipala, City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and Rep. George Arnaiz (2nd district, Negros Oriental).

Beneficiaries will be asked to participate in the construction of their houses. Community organizing and social preparation components will follow through to inculcate in them the positive values of mutual cooperation, unity and self-reliance from this project. — Kaye Pantinople, DSWD-7
