P428K lost in Libcap burglary

ILOILO CITY ,Philippines  — Some P428,000 was declared missing following a reported burglary at a branch office of Libcap Group of Companies located at Brgy. Quintin Salas in Jaro district of this city, following another break-ins of two other offices of companies based in the city.

Police investigation revealed that the break-in could have happened on the night of Saturday but the incident was only discovered noon of Sunday.

A Libcap employee passed by the area and saw that the roll up door of their main entrance was half opened. He immediately called the firm’s human resource officer and informed what he noticed. The officer responded and then went to the area and discovered that the firm’s collection money was missing.

It was gathered that the office failed to deposit its three-day collection at the bank. While they were equipped with a vault, the money was placed inside a cabinet at the cashier’s room.

According to Senior Insp. Euje Joseph Almaquer, chief of the Jaro Police Station, they already have a suspect in the Libcap burglary. “Our investigation showed that its former security guard was the one behind the burglary,” he said.

The guard, whose identity was temporarily withheld, was employed by Automatic Response Security Agency but was relieved from post due to malingering. Another guard was sent to replace him but he was only on day duty.

“So, after the employees went off last Saturday, the duty guard also took his off,” Almaquer said. It was then the burglary was carried out, he added.

Last week, a break-in was also reported at the office of Sanyo Philippines located at Door 6, D’ Appliance Arcade, Brgy. South Fundidor, Molo district of this city.

Cathy Amante, 37, company secretary, discovered the incident at around 7:45 in the morning of October 17.

The robbers gained entrance by destroying the glass window of the second floor of the establishment and unlocked the window grills. They carted away a Sanyo projector worth P90,700, a camera worth P4,000, a mobile phone valued at P4,000, post-dated check with face value of P245,000 in post-dated check paid to the Iloilo City treasury, and P35,000.00 in petty cash placed inside the drawer of Sanyo’s area manager, Julio Desello, 62, of dela Rama Street in this city.

The robbers also managed to gain entrance at the adjacent office occupied by Whirlpool Home Appliance owned by Excellence Appliance Technology, which lost a mobile phone charger worth P2,000, P2,000 in petty cash, and a piggy bank containing around P300.
