Man stabs wife to death, then cuts his genitals off, but fails to kill self

SIGMA, CAPIZ ,Philippines  — A man tried to take his own life but failed, immediately after stabbing his wife to death last Saturday afternoon at their house in Brgy. Pagbunitan of this town.

The 39-year-old Marlo Bonifacio failed to kill himself by stabbing but succeeded in cutting off his genitals.

Police reports said that Marlo and his 38-year-old wife, Analie, just arrived from the market to collect dues of some customers when the incident happened. While Analie was at the kitchen, Marlo approached and plunged a knife on her.

Relatives immediately discovered the incident and called for assistance from a policeman living near the couple's house. The policeman then called for his peers to respond to what was initially reported as a domestic commotion.

Senior Police Office 4 George Celiz said it took a while for them to bring Analie to the nearby Mambusao District Hospital because Marlo locked the main door and the kitchen door. Analie died while being treated at the hospital.

Marlo was not immediately brought to the hospital because policemen and relatives had to force open first the bedroom where he stabbed himself and cut his genitals after attacking his wife.

After getting initial treatment at the Mambusao District Hospital, he was brought to the St. Anthony Hospital in Roxas City.

Police recovered three knives and one bolo from the crime scene.

The neighbors found it hard to believe that Marlo would kill Analie. "They were reportedly inseparable: Where Marlo is, Analie would also be there," Celiz told The FREEMAN. This prompted investigators to suspect that Marlo might be suffering from a nervous breakdown.

It was learned that he went paranoid after he saw how his aunt eloped with another man, an incident that could have triggered him to think that his wife could also leave him for another man.

The couple has two children, aged 11 and 10 years old. Marlo used to work as a seafarer but has stopped working overseas after the couple saved enough money and went into rice trading. They also acquired some farm lots in the area.

Before the incident, they just deposited some P70,000 after doing their regular collection.
