Gas station manager, attacker die in fight
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - A manager of a gasoline station was stabbed to death by a man, believed to be under the influence of liquor, who was in turn shot to death by the station's security guard.
Police identified the victim as Michael Mina, manager of Fil Oil station located at barangay Tabu-tubig in the city, and the slain attacker as Apolonio Saringan, also of this barangay.
Investigators said the guard, Orlando Oliveros, narrated that Saringan appeared at the station then, without provocation, confronted a group of youngsters standing by a food chain outlet nearby.
Oliveros said he tried to pacify Saringan and told him to go home, but the latter refused to listen and went on to attack the youngsters. This prompted the guard to go inside the food outlet to call the police for help.
Suddenly, a single gunshot rang outside, and Oliveros saw his manager and Saringan fighting.
Saringan then took out a knife and stabbed Mina in various parts of the body, prompting Oliveros to go out and shot Saringan twice in the body.
Police responded and rushed Mina and Saringan to the Holy Child Hospital. Hours later the attending physician declared the two dead. Investigation of the incident is going on. (FREEMAN)
