National high school gets computers from DTI

- Edgar Allan Vilbar -

HILONGOS, LEYTE, Philippines —A national high school in this town was chosen by the Department of Trade and Industry to be the recipient of the ‘Personal Computer for Public Schools (PCPS)’ program.

Concepcion National High School (CNHS), located 7 kilometers inland, received the eleven brand new desktop computers, and one 3-n-1 printer from DTI-Leyte provincial director Desiderio Belas, Jr..

During the recent MOA signing, Belas told the people who gathered, as well as school, barangay and municipal officials that PCPS started in 2002. “Ever since, DTI have been distributing computers and other support gadgets to different public schools to improve the technological capabilities of students,” he said.

Mayor Jose Emery Roble told The Freeman that the municipality, with its growing demand for advancement in terms of computerization needs more (computer) units so that students will be more adept in the latest technology.

“It will be more encouraging for them than just listening lectures and looking at pictures,” said Roble, adding that he has been continuously reaching out to both government and private sectors for benevolence so more public schools students can have access to computers.

Barangay Chairperson Felina Fulache also welcomed the DTI donation. “With the distance of Concepcion to the town and given its large population, parents can indirectly benefit the DTI program. They can now send their children to the brgy high school, thereby saving on fare and other expenses,”she said.

CNHS Principal Zosimo Cabug-os said he is now assured that the students would gain the knowledge in computerization.

“DTI has been helpful to us. This is not the first time that our school was chosen as recipient. Not long ago, the agency donated 20 computers, 14 of which are still in good condition,” he said as he assured Belas to care and use properly the donated units. —  THE FREEMAN
