Sectors protest casino in Boracay

BORACAY, MALAY, AKLAN, Philippines  — Religious and business sectors, together with other groups, will stage an interfaith rally at the Boracay Plaza on July 30 to protest the establishment of a casino in this island.

The business sector is headed by Jony Salmi of the Boracay Foundation Inc., while the religious sector is headed by Rev. Fr. Magloire Placer, parish priest of the Holy Rosary in Boracay.

Placer told The FREEMAN they decided to stage the prayer rally so that everybody would know that they strongly oppose to the construction of casino there because they believed that it can cause or destroy the image of the island.

He added that even without the casino, there will be still more tourists coming to Boracay for vacation since it is already known worldwide.

The construction of the casino at Brgy. Manok-Manok, near a police station, started a month ago is still going on. (FREEMAN)
