Dumaguete backs PNRC's World Blood Donors Day
DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - The city government of Dumaguete supports the Philippine National Red Cross-Negros Oriental chapter in celebrating the World Blood Donors Day in ceremonies held at a mall in this city on Tuesday.
Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, in a message read by City Councilor JV Imbo, lauded the effort of the PNRC’s local chapter in conducting blood donation activities. He said Dumagueteños must make “saving lives a priority.”
The mayor urged every Dumagueteño to show concern and actualize their love for their fellowmen by being blood donors for the sake of those who are in dire need of it or those whose life gravely depend on the donation.
“I believe there is no other way for us to show gratitude to those people who have unselfishly given an essential part of themselves to people they don’t even know, than to say a simple ‘thank you.’ I’d like to go further and do more than that,” said Sagarbarria.
“Let us all remember that giving blood is a good way to prove that we are true Christians. And for the more pragmatic among us, giving blood has innumerable physical benefits as it cleanses our system and rejuvenates our blood cells,” he said in his message.
The PNRC-Negros Oriental chapter, headed by Louella Bael, then handed over the awards to 36 Red Cross Blood galloners, some organizations and local government units that contributed and supported the blood donation program.
Present during the celebration were Provincial Administrator Arnel Franciso, City Vice Mayor Allan Gel Cordova, Mayor Ricky Gonzales of Valencia town, Mayor Amor Baldado of Manjuyod, ABC-President Albert Aquino and Dr. Henry Sojor, chairman of PNRC’s local chapter, among others.
