Police: Mayor Locsin "accidentally fired his gun"
PRES. ROXAS, CAPIZ, Philippines — Mayor Raymond Locsin of this town had "accidentally fired his gun," and not as earlier reported that he stormed the police detachment and allegedly fired indiscriminately an armalite rifle.
This was the findings of Capiz Provincial Police director Sr. Supt. Domingo Cabillan, who said that tensed emotions may probably got into the mayor, the reason why his gun went off while inside the detachment of the 1st Manuever Platoon of the Capiz Public Safety Company in Brgy. Cabug-Cabug of this town.
"Medyo natagalan sila. Hindi nagustuhan ni mayor na pabagal-bagal kaya lumabas siya sa detachment. After one or two minutes, bumalik na siya at hawak na niya ang baril niya," he said.
Earlier reports also alleged that Locsin ordered the most senior officer present, SPO4 Romeo Wilmar Ortencio, to tell his men to form a line in front of him. When Ortencio did not heed the mayor, Locsin allegedly fired his gun, in front of his police-bodyguards, SPO1 Roselier Fabros and PO3 Gerardo Alejandro of the CPPO.
While the mayor was apparently "absolved" for indiscriminately firing his gun, Cabillan admitted that Locsin committed a violation. "He breached the existing policy for unwarranted visits to police stations," Cabillan said without denying the possibility that the mayor may be charged for such breach.
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, Jr., PRO-6 director, earlier ordered an investigation surrounding the incident, and on what the mayor's bodyguards did at the time.
As this developed, Locsin refused to issue any comment on the matter. (FREEMAN)
