- Lalaine Jimenea -

ORMOC CITY, Philippines  - The DILG-8 has announced the four nominees of Region 8 to the national Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Award (LTIA).

These are Brgy. 88 of San Jose in Tacloban City (for the highly urbanized city category); Brgy. Liloan in Ormoc City (independent component city or component city category); Brgy. Casab-ahan of Gandara in Samar (1st to 3rd class municipality category); and Brgy. Hingatungan of Silago in Southern Leyte (4th - 6th class municipality category).

The selection of these nominees was arrived at after a regional evaluation team conducted on-site validation, together with submitted documentations from the finalists themselves, covering the period from the 2nd semester of 2009 to the entire year of 2010.

The LTIA Regional Awards Committee is headed by the DILG with the participation of the RTC executive judge, the regional state prosecutor, the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges and some private schools, among others.

The lupons were evaluated by the a) efficiency of operations; b) effectiveness in securing the katarungang pambarangay objectives and c) creativity and resourcefulness of mediators.

Myles Colasito, information officer of DILG-8, said these top lupons in Eastern Visayas will be contending for the top prizes in the national LTIA search this year.

The LTIA is aimed to recognize top performing lupons, which are barangay conflict-resolution bodies under the Katarungang Pambarangay Law in 1978 and strengthened by the Local Government Code of 1991. (FREEMAN)
