Suspect in bugos bank checks from Cebu caught in Ormoc

ORMOC CITY , Philippines  -- A man from Sogod town in Cebu, who has been tagged as suspect in counterfeiting bank checks, was arrested after his alleged victim immediately called the Ormoc City Police informing of his presence here on Thursday.

The suspect was identified as 53-year-old Clarence Mondejar, who also carries the name Victor B. Merencillo, single and a former medical representative of Cebu.

The police seized from his possession three counterfeit checks of Land Bank and one of Metrobank, four ID cards bearing various names but with his ID photo, a gold ring, two Citizen wristwatches, an Alba wristwatch; three mobile phones, an Advantix F350 camera, three eyeglasses, two calculators, two black wallets, a bull cap and a black shoulder bag.

Police Station 1 head Shevert Alvin Machete told The FREEMAN that at 11:30 a.m. that day, the victim Marvin Pantino, an employee of MAP Auto Supply at Real St. of this city, phoned the station after he discovered the check of P16,300, the suspect had issued to him, was dishonored by the bank.

The police said the suspect left the tires at store which he purchased after he got the P1,300 change from the check he paid. Pantino said he saw the suspect at nearby street of his store prompting him to call the police.

The suspect is now facing various criminal offenses such as falsification of public and commercial documents and illegal use of alias.
