6 new Negros Occidental cop chiefs named

- Danny B. Dangcalan -

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines - After a revamp of all 31 chiefs of police in Negros Occidental last March 1, six new chiefs of police have been named and have assumed their respective posts effective yesterday (Thursday).

Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, provincial police director, has appointed Sr. Insp. Eduardo Corpuz as the new police chief of La Carlota City, replacing Supt. David Cachumbo.

Corpuz was chosen by La Carlota Mayor Juliet Ferrer, said Guisihan.

Chief Insp. Regidor Alvarado, NOPPO administrative officer, said Insp. Vannesa Sonoy assumed as police chief of Pontevedra town, replacing Sr. Insp. Argel Ancheta.

The four other police chiefs have been reassigned back to their previous posts: Supt. Leonardo Angcon of Sipalay City, Supt. Norberto Boston (Victorias City), Insp. Hector Balbon (San Enrique town) and Insp. Lowell Garinganao (Hinobaan).

Guisihan said the OICs of the different cities and towns will remain in their posts until the mayors choose their police chiefs.

He and other members of the PNP screening and evaluation committee had met with the mayors and discussed the appointment of police chiefs in their towns, adding that there was no resistance from the mayors in the replacement of their police chiefs.

In his meeting with the mayors, Guisihan presented statistics on the police's performance on the campaign against illegal gambling, which showed their below par performance that had triggered the sweeping relief of police chiefs in the province on March 1. "They were convinced of the basis for the relief," he said.

Guisihan said he asked the others mayors to submit to his office their choice of police chiefs, from the list provided to them. He added d the police chiefs who will not get new assignments, will be temporarily assigned to the NOPPO headquarters. — THE FREEMAN
