IN AKLAN: 2 high school students drown

BATAN, AKLAN , Philippines  — Two high school students drowned while swimming at a beach resort Saturday morning at Brgy. Songcolan, Batan, Aklan.

Police said, the fatalities were both 12 years old and residents of Altavas town, Aklan.

The victims were with their classmate, Jessabel Marcelino, when they, while swimming, were swept away by strong current.

They were among a group of freshmen students and their adviser from Altavas National High School to celebrate their victory of the recently-concluded Ati-Atihan Festival in their town.

Marcelino survived the incident and is now recuperating at the Altavas District Hospital while her two classmates suddenly vanished in the waters. Only one body was found so far.
