Rob-slay of councilor's sister: Cops have no clues yet on perpetrators

TAGBILARAN CITY , Philippines -  — Police investigators reported that as of yesterday they still have no clues on the identities of those who were responsible in the robbery of a town councilor of Baclayon town and killing of his sister on Thursday.

The victims, Councilor Angelito Uy, 68, and his sister Conchita Uy, 67, were robbed of their money along the road at Barangay Canapnapan in Corella town.

Police reports told The Freeman that the Uy siblings were prominent copra traders in Baclayon, but then there could be more motive than mere robbery and this is what investigators have been trying to discover.

The police said it was Angelito who was driving the multi-cab at the time. Armed men on a motorcycle were tailing them and later fired a shot to the air to force the Uys to stop.

The councilor however did not stop and accelerated instead prompting the robbers to fire at his car's front wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve and fell into the drainage by the roadside.

The Uys reportedly still refused to hand over to the robbers the bag containing money for copra buying, and this caused the robbers to shoot the siblings.

Conchita failed to make it to the hospital alive, while Angelito was brought to Cebu City for further treatment, the report said. 

It was not yet determined how much cash was taken by the robbers from the victims, but authorities, based at Camp Dagohoy in this city, have formed a task force to track down the perpetrators.

The victims were the siblings of then municipal mayors Benecio Uy and Felix Uy, each of whom had served Baclayon as mayors for nine years.
