Fire guts volunteer firefighter's building

- Jennifer P. Rendon -

ILOILO CITY , Philippines -  — A 20-minute fire Saturday evening gutted a building owned by a volunteer firefighter at Magsaysay Village in La Paz district of this city.

Jonathan Lim failed to save his building that housed A-1 Enterprises, which was engaged in the repair of fire trucks, among other services.

Bureau of Fire Protection's city fire marshal Chief Insp. Roberto Denaga said he initially saw Lim trying to put off the fire by himself.

"I did not saw any of his fire trucks when we responded to the area," Denaga said, adding that Lim owns several volunteer fire trucks named JB Lucky.

The fire however did not spread to adjacent shops and residential buildings, and the BFP-Iloilo City pegged the damage to property at P300,000.

Denaga said fire investigators have yet to establish the origin of the fire.
