MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte yesterday urged QCitizens to work together to sustain and protect the progress achieved through numerous reforms implemented over the past seven years.

In her eighth and penultimate State of the City Address, Belmonte traced how the unfulfilled plan to make Quezon City the country’s capital paved the way for opportunities that shaped the city into what it is today.

“We stand on the fragments of our founders’ dreams, building something much bigger than ourselves. Quezon City is the leading LGU in the country, setting the direction for others to follow,” she said. “From once being the capital city of the former republic, we can now proudly say that we have become the undisputed model city for the entire country.”

Belmonte outlined the city’s achievements during her term, including the stronger financial position that enabled the local government to strengthen social services for over three million residents.
