Extortion case ni Mabanta, iimbestigahan ng Kamara

MANILA, Philippines — Isang resolusyon ang nakatakdang ihain ng resolusyon ni Tingog party-list Rep. Jude Acidre kasama ang 40 iba pang miyembro ng Kamara de Representantes para imbestigahan ang umano’y extortion incident na kinasasangkutan ng grupo ni Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN) founder Franco Mabanta kay dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Sinabi ni Acidre na ang inihaing House Resolution (HR) No. 1006 ay “in aid of legislation” upang suriin ang insidente na kinasasangkutan ng mga social media influencer at online political operators.

Layunin ng imbestigasyon na talakayin ang mas malawak na isyu kung dapat bang ipatupad sa social media commentators ang katulad na standards of conduct na mayroon ang media at journalists.

Binanggit din niya ang pangangailangan ng isang policy framework na magtataguyod ng kalayaan sa pamamahayag.

“Kaisa tayo ng ­bansa sa pagpapahalaga sa malayang pamamahayag.But PGMN is far from practicing real journalism. This resolution intends to expose PGMN’s alleged extortion activities and unmask it as a mere fake news peddler”, wika ni Acidre.

Nitong Martes ay nagdeliber ng privilege speech si Acidre na binira ang ‘digital blackmail outfits ni Mabanta na una nang ­inaresto ng National Bureau of Investigation agents sa entrapment operations sa Pasig City noong nakalipas na Linggo kaugnay ng tangkang ­pangongotong ng P350 milyon na naibaba sa P300 milyon ng grupo ni Mabanta kay Romualdez.
