Philippine team nalipat ng grupo sa Badminton Asia Championships

MANILA, Philippines — Nalipat sa mas mahinang grupo ang Pilipinas sa 2020 Badminton Asia Manila Team Championships na lalarga nga­yon sa Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Mula sa naunang solidong Group A noong nakaraang buwan kasama ang nagdedepensang In­done­sia at No. 5 ranked team na India ay ma­ka­kasama na ng Philip­pine men’s team ang Chinese-Taipei at Singapore sa Group C.

Ito ay matapos ang isi­nagawang redraw ka­ha­pon sa Cen­tu­ry Park Hotel.

Binubuo nina Joper Es­cueta, Ariel Magnaye, Alvin Morada, Solomon Padiz Jr., Paul John Pantig, Ros Pedrosa, Arthur Salvado at Lanz Zafrahe ang Filipino shuttlers.

Sasalang kaagad sila kontra sa Taipei ngayong alas-4 ng hapon sa Court 1.

Napilitan ang Badminton Asia na magsagawa ng redraw matapos umatras ng China, Hong Kong at India women’s team.

Ito dahil sa 2019 no­vel coronavirus outbreak.

Nasa Group B naman ng India, Malaysia at Kazakhstan at swak kaagad sa next round ang Indonesia at Korea ng Group A gayundin ang Thailand at Japan sa Group D.

Nagrupo naman sa Pool Y ang Philippine wo­­men’s team kasama ang Thailand at Indonesia.

Bibida naman sa Pinay badminton aces sina Nicole Albo, Sarah Barredo, Mika De Guzman, Geva De Vera, Ysay Leonardo, Chanelle Lunod, Bianca Carlos at Thea Pomar.

Sasagupain nila ang Thailand sa alas-10 ng uma­ga sa Court 1 din.

Samantala, tiniyak ng Badminton Asia at Philip­pine Badminton Associa­tion ang kaligtasan ng mga manlalaro at fans sa pagpapatuloy pa rin ng na­turang continental meet na suportado ng SMART Communications Inc., MVP Sports Foundation, Leisure and Resorts World Corporation, Cignal at TV5.

 “We can assure to the players and the Filipino people that their safety is put on a premium to ensure the world-class staging of this event,” pahayag ni PBA secretary-general Christopher Quimpo.
