May pa-boxing sa Strawberry Festival

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet Province -- Mula sa imbitasyon ng Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) ay sinaksihan ni Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez ang boxing matches na bahagi ng 36th Strawberry Festival dito noong Linggo.

Pinanood ni Ramirez ang box-offs pati ang exhibition matches sa hanay ng mga bagitong local boxers.

“This is a great opportunity not only to see our national boxers but also to take a look at promising boxers.The Commission is committed to helping boxing all over the country. I have been making the rounds of different places in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao specifically to see the grassroots programs of different sports”, sabi ni Ramirez sa harap ng mga manonood sa La Trinidad Multi-Purpose Gym.

Ang event, inorganisa ng ABAP at ng municipal government sa pamumuno ni Mayor Romeo K. Salda ay ang final box-offs para sa mga national boxers na mag-aagawan ng puwesto para sa King’s Cup sa Bangkok, Thailand na nakatakda sa Abril 3-9.

Ayon naman kay Salda, ito ay simula pa lamang ng kanilang boxing program “and I plan to ask the Sanggunian to pass an ordinance that would energize boxing in La Trinidad.”

Tiniyak din ni Salda na ang boxing exhibitions sa hanay ng mga national boxers ay magiging regular na mapapanood sa Strawberry Festival.

Ang mga national boxers na nagpakitang-gilas ay sina 2016 World Youth bronze medalist Carlo Paalam, 2015 SEA Games gold medalists Ian Clark Bautista, Mario Fernandez at Eumir Felix Marcial, China Open gold medalist James Palicte at SEA Games silver medalist Irish Magno.
