Planong PVF election ni Chan ‘di sang-ayon si Romasanta

MANILA, Philippines - Hindi sang-ayon si Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) first vice president Joey Romasanta ang planong pagsasagawa ng bagong eleksiyon ng kinukuwestiyong Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) president na si Karl Chan sa Jan. 9 dahil sa legal irregularities.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Romasanta na tatanggalan ng pagkilala ang PVF ng POC bilang National Sports Association (NSA) dahil sa leadership crisis.  Tinawag niya ang PVF bilang “dysfunctional” na asosasyon at ito ay batid na ng Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).

 “The AVC told us that if we wanted to disenfranchise the PVF, it will support our decision,” sabi ni  Romasanta.  “Initially, we thought of forming a five-man committee to organize a new NSA for volleyball but we’re putting that on hold for the moment.”

Sinabi ni Romasanta na nakipagkita na siya sa isang  grupo ng PVF na kumikilala kay Edgardo (Boy) Cantada bilang chairman. 

“We’re not decided if we’ll strip the PVF of recognition or just straighten it out,” aniya.  “Our imme-diate priority is to form our national women’s team for volleyball because we haven’t participated in the last four SEA (Southeast Asian) Games. We are hosting an Asian U23 women’s tournament on May 1-9 so we’ll form our team for this tournament then add veterans to plug whatever holes there are to compete in the SEA Games in June.  Our ultimate goal is to be competitive in the 2017 SEA Games.”

Sinabi ni Romasanta na kinuha ng POC sina  Roger Gorayeb at Sammy Acaylar para magsagawa ng tryouts.  Iminungkahi ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Garcia ang pagkuha ng foreign coach.  Posibleng kunin ang  Thai mentor ng Ateneo na si Anusom Bundit para maging bahagi ng coaching staff. 

Walang planong bumuo ng men’s squad.

“We are rebuilding volleyball so our efforts are developmental at this stage,” aniya.  “Let me clarify that the POC is not abolishing the PVF.  What we can do is to withhold recognition of the PVF as an NSA.” 

Sinabi ni Romasanta na nagpadala si  Chan ng sulat sa POC noong Dec. 15 na nag-aabiso ng eleksiyon ng officers sa Jan. 9.  Nagsumite rin si Chan ng listahan ng mga members at bagong Constitution and By-Laws sa POC. 

“We find it irregular that the PVF has two sets of Constitution and By-Laws,” ani Romasanta.
