Asian Beach Games medalists may incentive

MANILA, Philippines - Tatanggap ng insentibo sina windsurfer Geylord Coveta at ang mga ju-jitsu specialists na sina Annie Ramirez at Maybelline Masuda matapos kumopo ng gold medals sa nakaraang Asian Beach Games.

Sinabi ni Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia noong Huwebes na ang tatlong gold medalist ay bibigyan ng P100,000 bawat isa matapos pangunahan ang kampanya ng Team Phi-lippines na mayroon ding dalawang silvers at pitong bronze medals para sa 14th overall finish sa torneong nilahukan ng 45 bansa.

Ang mga silver medalists ay tatanggap naman ng P50,000 at P25,000 para sa mga bronze medalists.

“It’s very important for Philippine sports to win medals in this kind of competition to inspire our athletes bound for the SEA Games. We real-ly need to redeem ourselves,’’ sabi ni Philippine chef de mission at fencing chief Richard Gomez.

Ang Southeast Asian Games na gaganapin sa Singapore sa susunod na taon ay pitong buwan na lamang ang layo at hangad ng Pinas ang 5th place finish overall.

Nanalo si Coveta sa RS:One bilang pambawi sa kanyang silver medal sa Incheon Asian Games kung saan sa men’s mistral event siya isinali.

Tinalo ni Masuda, Filipino-Japanese world champion sa Brazilian ju-jitsu, si Vietnamese Le Thu Trang sa women’s -50kg habang ang dating judoka na si Ramirez ay nanalo kay Thai Onanong Saengsirichok sa 60kg finals.

Muntik na ring naka-gold si muay fighter Phillip Delarmino ngunit lumasap ng controversial loss kay Thai Parin Luangpon. Ibinigay ng limang judges ang panalo sa Thai fighter kahit binugbog ng 24-gulang na si Delarmino ang kalaban sa pamamagitan ng kanyang mga sipa.

Naka-silver din si water skier Susan Madelene Larsson sa women’s cable wakeskate habang sina John Baylon (ju-jitsu), Jose Cembrano (water ski), duathlete Robeno Javier at muay fighters Manuel Delos Reyes (flyweight), lightweight Alvin Berto at middleweight Joel Zaspa bukod pa sa cable team nina Cembrano at Larsson ay naka-bronze.

May 77 Filipino athletes ang isinali sa 16 sports.
