Unang gold medal sa Batang Pinoy kinuha ni Angga

TAGUM CITY—Inangkin ni long-distance runner Jomar Angga ang unang gold medal ng 2013 Batang Pinoy Mindanao qualifying leg nang maghari sa boys’ 5,000-meter run kahapon sa Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Center.

Nagtala ang 13-anyos na pambato ng Davao City ng bilis na 19 minuto at 35.6 segundo matapos makawala sa huling 800 meters.

Tinalo ni Angga sina Edrian Bentulan ng Davao City (19:54.0) at John Rey Ulanday ng Koronadal City (20:04.7).

“Sobrang init. Nakakita ako ng pagkakataon na manalo nung bigla silang bumagal,” sabi ni Angga, anak ng isang banana plantation worker at isang second-year pupil sa Davao City National High School.

Inangkin naman ni Christine Joy Jorban ng Gene­ral Santos City ang gold medal sa girls’ long jump.

Lumundag ang third-year student mula sa General Santos National High School ng 4.76 meters sa kanyang pang limang tangka para talunin sina Jessica Jane Cora (4.39) at South Cotabato bet Pauline Paquierda (4.31).
