Cuello may tsansang lumaban para sa titulo

MANILA, Philippines -  Siniguro kay WBC No. 1 minimumweight contender Denver Cuello na magkakaroon siya ng title shot sa loob ng 90 days sa pagtatanggol ni defending champion Xiong Zhao Zhong ng titulo kontra kay Thailander Wanheng Menayothin sa Las Vegas sa March ngunit posibleng tumalon ito sa WBO sa inte-rim kung papayagan ni WBC president Jose Sulaiman.

Ayon sa manager ni Cuello na si Aljoe Jaro, ire-request niya kay Sulaiman ang paglaban ng kanyang bata para sa WBO crown na nakatakdang bakantehin ni Moises Fuentes ng Mexico, habang naghihintay ng makakalaban sa mananalo sa Xiong-Wanheng bout.

Kung papayag si Sulaiman, makikipagnegosasyon na agad si Jaro para kay Cuello upang lumaban para sa bakanteng titulo sa Manila kontra kay Carlos Buitrago ng Nicaragua o kay  Luis de la Rosa ng Colombia.

“We’ve waited two years for Denver’s title shot but he keeps getting bypassed,” sabi ni Jaro.  “The former WBC champion (Kazuto Ioka) gave up the title because he didn’t want to defend against Denver, the mandatory challenger.  But instead of Denver fighting for the vacant title, the WBC chose Xiong and (Javier) Resendiz.  I didn’t protest because the WBC explained it would be historic to stage the fight in China. 

Binigyan si Denver ng ‘step aside fee’ na $25,000 at kasiguruhan na lalabanan niya ang mananalo sa Xiong-Resendiz fight.
