Gaano kaya kalalim ang hidwaan ng magkakabanda? Ang sabi nga ng isang concerned composer na si Dodjie Simon, “Side A songs are a collective effort of the band. It’s not the work of just one person—whether you are the singer, guitarist, keyboardist, or drummer. When you leave the band, you are not automatically entitled to use the songs of the band. It doesn’t work that way, especially if you are not the one who wrote the song/s or owns the intellectual property rights to the songs/s. And it doesn’t matter if the song is “associated with the singer.”
It’s all about the ownership of the intellectual property. There are numerous cases of singers who left their band to go solo and they were successful in creating their own hits as a solo artist without using any of their former band’s songs. That is the ethical and respectful way to do it.”
