MANILA, Philippines — Mula sa karate ay sasabak si dating Southeast Asian Games champion Junna Tsukii sa mixed martial arts.

Ito ang inihayag ng Filipino-Japanese sa kanyang pagreretiro sa national karate team.

“Thank you for your continued warm support. I have decided to graduate from being an active karate athlete, which I have been doing for 26 years, and switch to mixed martial arts (MMA),” ani Tsukii sa kanyang social media post.

Gagawin ng 32-anyos na si Tsukii ang kanyang MMA debut sa Agosto 31 laban kay Japanese Ruka Sakamoto sa Odaiba, Japan.

Sinipa ng Fil-Japanese karateka ang gold medal sa women’s kumite 50kg event ng 2019 Manila SEA Games kasunod ang dalawang silver sa women’s kumite at team kumite ng 2023 edition sa Cambodia.

Nauna na siyang nagbulsa ng gintong medalya sa 2022 World Games sa Birmingham, USA at kumuha ng pilak sa 2021 Asian Championships sa Almaty, Kazakhs­tan.
