MANILA, Philippines — Hindi pa man sumasabak sa kanilang mga events sa Olympic Games sa Paris, France ay tatanggap na ng cash incentives ang mga Olympic-bound athletes mula sa mga Senador.
Sinabi kahapon ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard Bachmann na tatanggap ang nasabing mga atleta ng tig-P1.5 milyon mula sa pangakong P30 milyon ng mga Senador.
“P23 million is only from Senator Risa Hontiveros then Sen. Bong Go has a figure already, may additional siya,” ani Bachmann sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. “There’s also additional from other senators direct to the athletes already na pinasa lang sa PSC. Siguro mga P30 million plus.”
Lumobo sa 15 ang mga national athletes na nakakuha ng tiket para sa Paris Olympics na nakatakda sa Hulyo 26 hanggang Agosto 11.
Ang mga ito ay sina pole vaulter EJ Obiena, boxers Eumir Marcial, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Aira Villegas at Hergie Bacyadan, gymnasts Carlos Yulo, Aleah Finnegan, Levi Jung-Ruivivar at Emma Malabuyo, weightlifters Vanessa Sarno, John Ceniza at Elreen Ando, fencer Sam Catantan at rower Joanie Delgaco.
Sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics ay binuhat ni weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng Pilipinas bukod sa tig-isang silver nina Petecio at Paalam at bronze ni Marcial.
Huhugot din ng pondo ang PSC para sa mga Olympic-bound athletes mula sa idaraos na PSC Golf Cup sa Hunyo 14 sa Canlubang Golf and Country Club sa Laguna.
“All proceeds will go to the athletes who qualified to the Olympics as additional support that would be divided equally. That’s around P2 million,” wika ni Bachmann
