Aranas gustong maging ‘self-sufficient’ ang mga NSAs

MANILA, Philippines — Sa kanyang pagiging isang tax at corporate lawyer ay naniniwala si archery president Atty. Clint Aranas na matutulungan niya ang mga National Sports Associations (NSAs) na magkaroon ng sarili nilang pondo.

Ito ay kabilang sa plataporma ni Aranas sa kanyang paghahamon kay Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino ng cycling para sa presidency ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

“I will have to see the plans and programs first before presenting them to corporate sponsors,” wika ng dating president at general manager ng Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), sa mga NSAs.

Hangad naman ni Tolentino na makakuha ng ‘full term’ matapos talunin si Philip Ella Juico ng athletics sa snap elections noong Hulyo ng 2019 matapos ang biglaang pagbibitiw ni basketball chairman Ricky Vargas.

Itinakda ang POC elections sa Nobyembre 27.

Bukod kay Juico, ang iba pang nasa tiket ni Aranas ay  kinabibilangan nina Steve Hontiveros (chairman) ng handball, Philip Ella Juico (first vice president) ng athletics, Ada Milby (second vice president) ng rugby at Monico Puentevella (treasurer) ng weightlifting.

Tatakbo naman para sa POC Board sina Julian Camacho ng wushu, Robert Bachmann ng squash, Charlie Ho ng netball at Robert Mananquil ng billiards.

“I envision ourselves to be a working POC board and intend to bring the POC closer and in touch with the NSAs,” wika ni Aranas.

Nasa grupo naman ni Tolentino sina Tom Carrasco (chairman) ng triathlon, Al Panlilio (first VP) ng basketball, Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez (second VP) ng fencing at modern pentathlon, Cynthia Carrion (treasurer) ng gymnastics, Chito Loyzaga (auditor) ng baseball at sina Raul Canlas ng surfing, Dave Carter ng judo at Prospero ‘Butch’ Pichay ng chess para sa POC Board
