MANILA, Philippines - Para kay Gilas Pilipinas team manager Butch Antonio, ang palabang puso ang naglalarawan sa mga dati at bagong Gilas Pilipinas.
“You can’t really compare (the two groups) head-to-head. But common thing is the fight. What distinguishes is the heart and fight in them,” wika ni Antonio.
“The difference is the names and the personalities that formed the team. But the bond, it’s not too far from what this team is building on,” dagdag pa nito.
Tanging sina Andray Blatche, Ranidel de Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Jayson Castro at Gabe Norwood ang natira mula sa Gilas team ni dating coach Chot Reyes na naglaro sa World Cup sa Spain noong nakaraang taon.
Si Matt Ganuelas-Rosser ay mula sa Gilas cadet program, habang sina Asi Taulava, Sonny Thoss at Dondon Hontiveros ay dating mga miyembro ng national team.
Ang mga baguhan ay sina Terrence Romeo, Calvin Abueva at JC Intal.
Ang mga miyembro ng 2013 FIBA Asia Gilas team ay sina Marcus Douthit, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio, Jeff Chan, Larry Fonacier, Gary David at Jimmy Alapag.
Si Antonio ang humawak sa original Gilas group na kinabibilangan nina Greg Slaughter, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Lutz, Chris Tiu, Mark Barroca at Macmac Baracael bago siya palitan ni Aboy Castro noong 2013-14.
